Ben

Ben is now 20 kilo's heavier, bigger, stronger and leaner than he could have ever expected. Ben walked in as a shy young boy and now he is able to walk around as a confident young man.

Ben decided to take action in gaining professional help to develop his physique and performance in rugby at the age of 16. Over his first year, he built a strong foundation in understanding training and nutrition which had always been the roadblock to him making progress.

What were your expectations and motivations when starting Personal Training?

My expectations for personal training was that once I curled a dumbbell id suddenly have the perfect body. I shortly found that not to be the case and realised it was a much longer process which also provided motivation to carry on and get the body I wanted/ was happy with.

What was your lifestyle and nutrition like before starting?

My lifestyle and nutrition before starting was average for a person my age but after starting the gym I was quickly well educated and gained knowledge in how to better my lifestyle.

How has your diet and lifestyle changed?

My diet has changed completely, I used to eat whatever whenever I wanted but now I have learnt to adapt my diet depending on the intended goal I want to achieve, for instance I’ve been on 3500 calories a day to try and build as much muscle mass and I’ve also dropped down to 2200 calories while getting in the best shape possible for my lads holiday.

What was the hardest “bad habit” to kick during this process?

My hardest bad habit to kick was definitely comparing myself to others who had been lifting for years, you see them within shape bodies and compare yourself to them but you really shouldn’t. there’s no “quick fix” when it comes to bodybuilding its just a long process you have to trust in.

How has the change in nutrition and training impacted your lifestyle and energy levels outside of the gym?

To put it simply, now that I’ve started the gym I don’t think I will ever start. Its like an addiction but a healthy one thankfully, the gym doesn’t just affect your body it helps your mind as well if I ever feel upset, angry or just confused I go to the gym an escape and always feel better once I’ve left compared to when I first walked in.

What have you learned since working with your coach?

My coach Jack hasn’t only just taught me everything I need to know about the gym but he has also taught me many life lessons along the way. He showed me how to tackle revising for my A levels just like how id tackle dieting. He’s taught me nothing in life ever comes easy, we’ve got to work for it and whatever achievement we get its still an achievement no matter how big or how small. Therefore I’ve learnt skills not only for the gym but skills for life. He’s a true inspiration to me.
